Florida medical tint exemptions do not have a standard state-mandated expiration date, but your physician's certification may carry its own validity period. Here's everything you need to know.

Medically ReviewedDoes a Florida Window Tint Medical Exemption Expire?
Florida Statute §316.2953 does not specify a mandatory expiration date for medical tint exemptions. Unlike vehicle registration or a driver's license, there is no state-enforced renewal cycle. However, there are practical reasons why your exemption may need to be renewed or updated:
- Physician-specified duration: Some doctors include an expiration date or review period in their certification
- Change in medical condition: If your condition has changed or you've had new diagnoses, an updated certification reflects current medical reality
- New vehicle: Your exemption certificate should clearly identify your vehicle or be written to cover all vehicles you operate
- Document damage or loss: A worn or illegible certificate should be replaced
- Change of address or name: Certificates should match your current ID
What Florida Law Says About Carrying Your Exemption
Florida law requires that a copy of the physician's authorization be kept in the vehicle at all times when operating a vehicle with non-compliant tint. Under F.S. §316.2953(3), the document must be presented upon request by a law enforcement officer.
A digital copy on your phone is generally accepted in Florida, but keeping a printed copy in your glove compartment as a backup is strongly recommended.
When You Should Renew Your Florida Tint Exemption
How to Renew Your Florida Medical Tint Exemption
The renewal process is identical to the initial application — there is no separate "renewal form" in Florida. You submit a new medical intake, a licensed Florida physician reviews your case, and a new certification is issued.
Our online process handles renewals the same as new applications. Simply complete the intake form noting that this is a renewal or updated certificate.
